mpt colour --explain

colour · hdr pipeline

Trust what you're looking at.

Most viewers show you something close. MPT shows you the transform you asked for — scene-linear, OCIO v2, PQ and HLG EOTFs, BT.2020 to your panel's primaries, ACES end to end. If a shot looks wrong in MPT, the shot is wrong — on Windows, macOS and Linux alike.

measured peak

Not guessed

A PQ file with no MaxCLL and no mastering block? MPT scans it at full resolution and caches its actual peak in a sidecar.

hdr in & out

Real HDR on glass

HDR10, HLG, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision P8 metadata, applied on the hardware-decode path too. scRGB FP16 on Windows, EDR on macOS. Linux: not yet — SDR presentation, correctly tone-mapped; HDR exports work.

mpt postfx --order

Post FX, in the physically right order.

A lens and sensor chain in scene-linear, before the display transform — so a fifty-times-overbright specular blooms like one instead of clipping first and blooming after.
